class=\"BodyA\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">This <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">research, focuses on the songs of the Yaeyama region that have been passed on in the islands.\u00a0 It is clear that boundaries of flora and fauna exist due to the Watase line of the Tokara islands, and the Hachisuka line which lies between the Ryukyu islands and Yaeyama islands.\u00a0 The Yaeyama islands lie to the south of the Watase and Hachisuka lines.\u00a0 Therefore, the flora mentioned in the songs are depicted based on the singers awareness of the flora.<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">As a result, the natural environment, folk customs, beliefs, and the climate of the Yaeyama islands all play a role in the background of the flora in the songs.\u00a0This paper discusses the characteristics of Yaeyama songs through the expressions of those flora.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The first chapter extracts flora (referred to as \u201cflora songs\u201d) that were noted in the songs listed in the \u201cNanto Kayo Taisei IV Yaeyama Edition\u201d (Hokama, Miyara1979), the main text used for this paper.\u00a0 The characteristics of the Yaeyama songs were analyzed from more than eighty different varieties of flora that were extracted from the flora songs.\u00a0 It is considered that flora songs could be divided into two categories: <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cflora songs\u201d (human interaction in daily life) and \u201crice songs\u201d( the wish for an abundant crop).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The second chapter, anal<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">yzes examples of actual songs.\u00a0Analysis was done by figuring out which naturally grown flora from the flora songs in the Yaeyama islands were used, and how they were used, and by what kind of thoughts were expressed by the singers. Based on the findings, the structural characteristic of the flora expressions that were used became clear. The relationship of the concrete expression and the enumeration form of songs are also discussed in this chapter.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">In the third chapter, the cultivated plant, rice, that is concerned with the rice songs are discussed.\u00a0 Rice songs have themes that wish for the success of harvests.\u00a0 Moreover, in the songs that wish for success of rice harvests, the ideal growth of rice and the wild grasses (Japanese pampas grass, goose grass, Job`s tears) are concretely expressed.\u00a0<\/span><s><\/s><span lang=\"EN-US\">From the analysis of general rice songs, and the connection between wild grasses and songs that look at rice, expressions and supernatural beliefs of rice farming culture were observed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Default\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Chapter four summarizes the characteristics of expressions in Yaeyama songs through various consideration of the expressions that take place in flora songs.\u00a0 Within the many types of song formats, utilizing flora as material for concrete expression is one kind of song design.\u00a0 Concrete expression of songs that use the natural flora of the islands have the ability to easily draw out the understanding and sympathy of people towards the songs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Styles of songs that express feelings by concrete qualities is a universal style that has been seen in the world of songs.\u00a0 In addition, by understanding natural flora that was cultivated in the Yaeyama islands, the expressions of the thoughts and hopes that were born from the concrete happenings in the daily lives of the Yaeyama poets, is seen as a special characteristic of flora songs.\u00a0 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">The songs are thought of as a means of communication between people that confirm the thoughts and sympathy of the general community which \u201clocation\u201d is indispensable in the tradition of oral transmission of songs.\u00a0 According to memories of people over the years, orally transmitted songs that have been through many \u201clocations\u201d, have a mixture of various context in one song that was orally transmitted.\u00a0 In each of the contexts, expressions that occurred from the concrete happenings in daily lives and the world of thoughts and sympathy are hidden in the back of each song.\u00a0 In the research of orally transmitted songs, how one approaches the invisible meanings of songs is necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"tab_div_4xhe\" class=\"tab_content\"
