Creating a new cultural art that connects Okinawa to the future

University Music Hall

The OPUA Music Hall is located on the north side of the ground and the northwest side of the second campus. It is a two-story building with a basement floor, and the total floor area of the facility is about 2000 square meters. With a 390-seat capacity performance hall at its center, the Music Hall building is equipped with amenities such as practice rooms, classrooms and a recording studio. It plays a significant part in the university’s education program.
The building architecture was carefully designed to blend in with its immediate environment which is formed with historic buildings such as those of Shurijo Castle at its center. To accomplish this, the building was designed not to exceed 12 meters in height, with multiple roofs to avoid a simple single plane, and to make it look visually smaller than it is. For the exterior finish, red tiles were used for roofing and Ryukyu limestone as the principle material for the walls.
